Meeting Asclepius

Honestly, I am not a big fan of the Meeting Asclepius exercises. I was able to picture the person I consider to be the wisest, most generous, and the picture of loving-kindness in my life. However out of the crown, throat, and heart the only beam of light I could picture was the one from the heart almost as if he were opening his arms and heart to me. The crown and throat disturbed me when I tried to picture it which I found odd due to the fact that I can picture light beams with myself during the rainbow meditation. Overlooking that aspect being able to accept this person into my life by trying to emulate their strengths went smoothly. I am not sure what the reason is but it seems like the two exercises that I am supposed to picture someone are the hardest exercises for me.

The saying “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” means how can a health professional truly lead or help individuals find their path to human flourishing through integral health without being on the journey themselves. Every health professional has the responsibility to be a role model to their clients. Simply put who is going to listen to a physician say you need to lose weight if they themselves are obese or you need to stop smoking when you can smell cigarette smoke all over them. Patients are able to see through a healthcare provider when they contradict themselves. Currently, I am working on quieting my mind and improving my loving-kindness which will further develop my psychological and spiritual growth.

Integral Assessment

Overall, I can say that I did a very honest assessment of myself. My weakest areas are worldly and interpersonal when it comes to the community. I am currently not tied down to any profession and am shy so I can see why I scored so poorly in those areas. With that being said I have chosen to work on myself before working on the “all of us portion”. The areas I will begin my development is in the biological and psychospiritual areas which will eventually flow into the interpersonal and worldly dealing with family, work, generativity, and lastly community and social activism. The reason I am starting with the “I or you” is because Dacher repeatedly says in his writings “from I to you to us to all of us”. Lastly, specific exercises that I am going to use to enhance my psychospiritual levels are three exercise which include the rainbow mediation, subtle mind, and loving-kindness. These three exercise will grow the biological, interpersonal, and worldly aspects by moving from an “I to you to us”. The exercise that I will be using for the biological aspect is gratefulness in the form of opportunities and motivation. Changing my view from imposed to chosen will also help strengthen the other quadrants especially worldly.
